REVIEW

Summer Days and Summer Nights was SUCH a cute and fun read! I'm not sure how exactly is the best way to review an anthology like this so I think I'm just gonna give ratings for the different stories and maybe just specifically talk about a few of my favorites!

The stories in this book are diverse with stories featuring LGBTQ characters, POC characters, and characters with mental illness. They are also pretty diverse in the fact that they were all different enough that it didn't get to feel too repetitive like you were reading the same story over and over with different characters. There are demons, sea monsters, carnivals, a time loop, last visitations, summer school, and summer jobs! A little bit of everything. The stories don't all strike me as having a terribly summer-y vibe, but they're all cute in their own ways! Most have happy endings, some do not. There's new love, rekindled love, and lost love.

Head, Scales, Tongue, Tale by Leigh Bardugo – 4 Stars
The End of Love by Nina Lacour –  3 Stars
Last Night at the Cinegore by Libba Bray – 4 Stars
Sick Pleasures: For A and U by Francesca Lia Block – 2 Stars
In Ninety Minutes, Turn North by Stephanie Perkins – 5 Stars
Souvenirs by Tim Federle – 3 Stars
Inertia by Veronica Roth – 5 Stars
Love Is The Last Resort by Jon Skovron – 2 Stars
Good Luck and Farewell by Brandy Colbert – 4 Stars
Brand New Attraction by Cassandra Clare – 2 Stars
A Thousand Ways This Could All Go Wrong by Jennifer E. Smith – 5 Stars
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things by Lev Grossman – 3 Stars

I am having a very hard time trying to decide which story was my favorite between Stephanie Perkins' and Veronica Roth's stories! They were both so good!

IN NINETY MINUTES, TURN NORTH features a couple that had broken up when one of them left for college and the other didn't feel like they had that option. The main character misses the other party and goes back to try and "rescue" them and convince them that college can definitely be in their future. I thought that this was one of the cutest stories in the whole book.

INERTIA reminded me a lot of the Divergent series in the fact that it has a sci-fi feel to it and it features a Divergent-esque serum in it. This story totally made me cry. It was so good. I want to say more, but I don't think that I can without spelling the entire story out for you because it was so good. This one wasn't necessarily cute, but it made me feel things.

A THOUSAND WAYS THIS COULD ALL GO WRONG is about a girl who goes out on a limb and kind of asks out the boy that she has been crushing on for awhile now. He agrees, but she can't really tell if he's into it or not. When things don't go quite according to plan, he helps one of her camp kids open up. I really think that I might think this one was the cutest story!!

There were some hit and miss stories in this book, but overall, it was definitely worth the read! I would recommend this book if you're all about love stories! I think this would make a great beach read this summer!

The New York Times Book Review

“There’s no shortage of cozy setups for holiday romance in this captivating collection of short stories…a rare seasonal treat.”
Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

“Rich language and careful, efficient character development make the collection an absorbing and sophisticated read, each story surprisingly fresh despite the constraints of a shared theme. It’s that rarest of short story collections: There’s not a single lump of coal.”
Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review

“Holiday canoodling stories by twelve of the top YA authors? It’s a Christmas miracle! This is the substantive stuff of dream stockings: a rollicking, blush-inducing, memorable holiday collection of breezy, bite-sized stories perfect a snug evening next to the fire.”
Booklist, Starred Review

“Never mind the winter holidays; booktalk this title all year round.”
School Library Journal, Starred Review

“This is the best book to read as soon as the first snowfall hits and you can break out your ice skates.  No matter if you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or the Winter Solstice, there's a story in here for you.”
Bustle

“Holiday stories are often cloying, like pine-scented air freshener, but every entry in this volume proves genuine.”
Chicago Tribune Printer’s Row

“This book + a cozy throw + a roaring fire = perfect holiday afternoon.”
Justine Magazine

“Stunning and diverse, this holiday anthology is pure magic. Perkins’ sharp editing ensures each story flows seamlessly alone and within the collection. Her own contribution, ‘It’s a Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown,’ is the highlight of the set. This is what all anthologies should aspire to be.”
RT Book Reviews, Top Pick! 4 ½ Stars

“Satisfying and just sweet enough, like a good Christmas cookie, this will obviously appeal to those readers who get out the holiday decorations the day after Halloween, and it may even convert a Scrooge or two.”
The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Book Reviews

The eclectic collection of stories—some fantastical, some realistic—all end with hopeful, if not always happy, endings.”
The Horn Book Magazine

“These stories are well written and speak to the hearts of teens and adults everywhere.  No matter what faith a reader may hold, these tales speak to the soul and teach that life is what we make it.  Readers just have to realize all gifts are not wrapped in paper and ribbons. Some are lessons about life. Not everyone has a picture perfect holiday.”
