Top Ten Tuesday (#62)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish!

This week's topic is Ten Characters I'd Name my Child/Pet/Car/Etc. After! I actually just did this topic a few weeks ago about characters I'd name my future children after!

So while thinking of different ways I could spin this, I was thinking of sharing literary figures/books with characters that share my name!

Which is probably going to be a short list, to be honest. How many Cyras do you know? I have never found my name on anything before and the one time my mom found my name on a souvenir license plate type thing at the state fair, she didn't get it! What were you thinking, mom!?

So first of all, these are three books that I know of with characters that share my first name:

Abducted from a life of privilege, she was sold into slavery in a distant land. For Lady Janet Leslie there would be no escaping the harem of the wealthy and powerful Sultan Selim. But from the moment the handsome ruler spied his breathtaking "Cyra," was captivated -- by the fiery desire that coursed through his veins. She belonged to him, body and soul -yet it was he who was enslaved.

Praised for her keen sense of history and remarkable storytelling powers, the bestselling author of The Spitfire displays the passionate magic that has made her a national favorite -sweeping the reader into the romantic past, from the magnificence of Renaissance Europe to the perfumed splendor of a Sultan's court.

The Kadin is the book that my mom originally got my name out of. It was only recently that she finally told me the name of the book because it wasn't something that she wanted me to read when I was a bit younger, I guess. I assume it's a 'trashy' romance novel.

I'm excited to finally read it!

They survived The Island, but can they cross The Chasm?

Four months after Prince Galian was discovered alive on a remote island, he's adjusting slowly to life at the hospital under the Kylaen media's glare. His promises to Theo remain unfulfilled as fear of his father keeps him from taking concrete action. And the more he learns about the machinations in Kylae, the less sure he is that it's possible to make a difference.

Across the great Madion Sea, Major Theo Kallistrate struggles to navigate the tricky political waters of Rave's presidential staff. To make positive change for her people, she must remain relevant and interesting to the Raven media and to the president. When he asks her to deliver a speech on her supposed two-month imprisonment at Mael, she's not sure she can stomach the lies.

The Chasm is S. Usher Evans' breathtaking, fast-paced follow-up to The Island, which readers say is "not to be missed."

My name isn't in the synopsis of this book (the character isn't a real major one), but it's in there somewhere! I nearly croaked when I saw that my name was in there, I was so excited! Woo hooooo!

Fans of Star Wars and Divergent will revel in internationally bestselling author Veronica Roth’s stunning new science-fiction fantasy series.

On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.

Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.

I am SO excited for this book to come out. I didn't necessarily love the Divergent series, I liked the first book. I liked the second book a little less. I didn't really like the last book. But this book sounds exciting and my name is in it! So I obviously have to read it!

And in the effort to make this list have a little more meat to it, I am including literary figures that somehow share my name. So basically, I've included my middle name, Rae.

So here is what I can come up with for literary figures:

Rae Carson

Cyra McFadden

I've never heard of this lady before, but she's a writer so it fits the prompt! I found her when I looked up my name on a baby name site! I have never heard of anything that she's written, but I'm always excited to find another Cyra.

Who are some characters that share your name? Any authors/literary figures?
